Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow

Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow for domestic carpet fitting

Before fitting carpet, the floor beneath it needs to be clean, dry, sound and suitably prepared. Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow is a domestic carpet underlay designed to sit between the subfloor and carpet, adding a more comfortable foundation to the finished floor. Getting the preparation right matters. An uneven or unsuitable surface can affect how the carpet sits, so check the condition of the floor before you begin.

This option suits homeowners replacing an existing carpet or planning a room renovation, as well as interior designers specifying underlay for domestic projects. Its stretch fit design is intended to help it follow the contours of the floor during installation. That makes accurate positioning important, particularly around edges and changes in the room’s shape. The aim is a properly fitted layer beneath the carpet, ready for everyday use.

Understanding the 8mm thickness and 15m2 coverage

The 8mm thickness gives you a clear starting point when planning the build-up beneath your carpet. It provides a layer between the floor and the finished covering, contributing to the cushioned feel underfoot. However, thickness alone does not establish suitability for every carpet or fitting method, so check that the underlay is appropriate for your chosen floorcovering before ordering.

Each pack covers 15m2. This figure helps you work out how many packs your room requires, provided you measure the floor area accurately and allow for practical cutting needs. For example, measure each part of an irregular room rather than relying on an approximate overall dimension. The product is intended for domestic use, which gives you a clear indication of its stated application. Yellow identifies this particular version of the Cushilay PU Underlay range.

Suitable domestic rooms and important limitations

Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow is intended for domestic flooring projects where carpet comfort is part of the specification. It can be considered for bedrooms, lounges and other household rooms being recarpeted, subject to the carpet manufacturer’s requirements and the conditions of the subfloor. Its stated domestic classification is the key guide when deciding where to use it.

There are limits to that suitability. This product is not specified for commercial or heavy contract applications, so do not assume it is suitable for offices, shops or other high-traffic premises. It also should not be selected on thickness alone if your carpet has particular underlay requirements. Check compatibility first, especially if the carpet manufacturer specifies a particular underlay type or fitting system. A little checking before purchase can prevent an unsuitable combination.

What to expect from the underlay in everyday use

Underlay plays a supporting role once the carpet is fitted. Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow is designed to absorb sound, helping reduce some of the noise associated with movement across a carpeted floor. The degree of change will depend on the room, the floor construction and the complete flooring system, so the underlay should be viewed as one part of the overall result rather than a guarantee of soundproofing.

The added layer also contributes to a softer feel underfoot. It remains hidden beneath the carpet, so the finished appearance is determined largely by the carpet and the quality of the fitting. Keep the underlay dry during storage and installation, and follow the fitting guidance appropriate to your carpet. It is an installed flooring component, not a finished surface intended for direct foot traffic.

Calculating pack quantities before you order

Start by measuring the room and calculating its floor area in square metres. Compare that figure with the 15m2 coverage stated for each pack, then allow for cutting and the shape of the space. Hallways, alcoves and awkward corners can create offcuts, so a simple area calculation may not account for every fitting requirement. If you are covering several rooms, calculate each one separately before combining the totals.

Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow is intended to be installed beneath compatible carpet, so make sure your carpet and fitting accessories are selected together. Depending on the installation method, you may also need suitable carpet gripper and door-bar or threshold trim. These items serve different purposes and should be chosen to match the carpet, doorway and subfloor. Check the carpet manufacturer’s instructions before finalising your order, and avoid buying on an assumed fitting method alone.

Choose the right underlay for your carpet project

For domestic carpet installations requiring an 8mm underlay with 15m2 pack coverage, Ball & Young Cushilay PU Underlay – 8mm Yellow is an option to assess against your flooring requirements.

Measure your rooms, confirm compatibility with your carpet and order the quantity you need through Lyons Carpets & Flooring Supplies. If you are uncertain about coverage or suitability, seek clarification before purchasing so the underlay matches the job.
